Preliminary Task

The preliminary task required us to shoot someone walking through a door, across a room and having a short conversation with another person.

Our first attempt.

After filming we realised that there was a problem with the sound, when the camera was facing the character in the orange and that she could not be heard when speaking. We therefore had to re shoot the scene.

Final piece

Evaluation
This was our first time using the cameras and the editing software, so some problems did arise. We had problems with making each shot flow well with the next. To solve this was a case of trial and error, as we tried different editing techniques such as fade ins and we decided to use both fade in and straight cuts.
Another problem was the sound, especially in the first attempt but also in the final piece. We would have re shot the scene but the poor sound quality was out of our control, due to the I.T technicians ordering the wrong type of battery. To make the sound more audible we used voice overs in some shots. I thought that this was noticeable due to the different volume and background noise, but it produced a better overall product than the first attempt where we did not try to correct the problem. During our second attempt we had become better at using the editing software and this helped to get a better result and it also helped become more time efficient whilst using it.
The preliminary task has helped us improve our overall skill in using both the camera and editing software. We will in future be able to concentrate on correcting problems such as sound, rather than putting all of our attention on learning how to use the editing software.
